INFORMATION SHEET

August 2005

From the CFI

Congratulations to Shep for his 20,000th launch. Here’s to the next 20,000!!

The season seems to have started at last with some good weather in August. Pity it arrived so late! There have been another flurry of big and fast flights with several 300’s at over 110kph, and several flights around 700k. Congratulations to Jonathan Cave and Kristian Walton on going solo.

The K13 CFA now has its open cockpit canopy in service. It’s fantastic on those hot days (few this year I admit), and lives in the bus. If you wish to fly it please get help when fitting it from a instructor or member of staff.

We have had a great time on the task week and soaring course. The weather was kind and lots of people made massive improvements on their flying. My thanks go to Dave Caunt for helping me run the course, and everybody else who helped.

There are a couple of late season events taking place with some spaces still available. A long weekend at Shobdon is being run on the 16th – 20th September by Alan Smith. A two seater and single seater will be there for the duration and places are still available. Also the annual Aboyne trip is running from 25th September – 15th October, organised by Dave Richardson. This is a great opportunity to get some fantastic late season flying under great supervision. All standards of pilot are welcome. Please book with the office.

Aboyne 25th September – 15th October 2005

This list is open in the office for this years visit to the Deeside Gliding Club at Aboyne.

We will be taking 1 or 2 two seaters and single seaters to suit the experience level of members on the trip. Site checks, training and subsequent solo flying is all supervised by four fully rated instructors. Everyone is welcome.

Aboyne is a fantastic wave site, wave should occur in any wind with a westerly element from south round to north. The hills give good thermals and provide hill soaring opportunities as well.

We stay in an 11 bed log cabin in the hills near the airfield, there are also plenty of pubs, B & Bs and houses to rent in the area if you don’t fancy staying with the herd.

Each week runs from Sunday morning to Saturday evening. You move into the log cabin on Saturday afternoon, out by the following Saturday morning.

If you are interested, further information from me, 01494 529263, ring or call in to put your name on the list. There will be a couple of spare slots for private owners each week, or book your glider in direct with Aboyne.

When you book in, we need to know if you want to use the log cabin, bring your own glider and if you can tow a glider to/from Aboyne.

A £50 deposit will be necessary as we have to pay for accommodation and glider bookings 12 months in advance. The deposit is offset against your final bill.

Shobdon

A long weekend flying at Shobdon is being organised for 16th September 2005.

Anybody interested please contact Alan Smith for more information, or put your name down in the office with a £20 deposit.

........................................SHOBDON:
I'm running a long weekend expedition back to Shobdon on September 16th (Friday) through to September 19th (Monday).
I hope to take a K21 and a junior/Pegase and as many private owners that want to come.
Graham Busby will be there with his new Robin Cub.

It will cost around £20 (assuming we get 10 people to get the tug there and back.
Please contact the office ASAP and put your name on the list

Shobdon is an easy site to fly from, with possibilities of wave, ridge and thermals. Open to all from pre-solo to pundit. Lots of good accommodation locally (See Shobdon website) and many good pubs and restaurants.

Take a look at the "expedition" link to get an idea of what it's like!
