BOOKER GLIDING CLUB

WYCOMBE AIR PARK, MARLOW, BUCKS SL7 3DP

INFORMATION SHEET November 2000

From the Committee

The new (to us) K21 will arrive in the near future. This machine will replace K13 FPX as previously stated.

We do not have enough manpower to run both a Regionals and Nationals next year so we shall not be running a Regionals in 2001. We will, however, run one in 2002.

From the Tug Workshop

Help us to keep our aircraft in good condition by following these rules:

  • Keep mud out of the tugs – no muddy boots
  • No wet ropes in the tugs
  • Keep wheels / mudguards clear of mud
  • Keep all tugs meticulously clean by washing down before parking in the hangar

All of the above will give the aircraft a longer life and reduce the risk of corrosion.

From the CFI

Winter operations

A few seasonal reminders for all pilots now winter is here again.

  • The airfield is a little bit short for us when the grass is wet and muddy and the wind unfavourable. Please think about your take off run and if you expect to be marginal over the hedge, move back. This especially applies to the K21.
  • Don’t carry on flying until it is dark! Stop whilst you can still see.
  • Beware of the low sun in the afternoons. Landing into a low sun is very tricky, at least be aware of the potential problem.
  • Look after the grass. It’s going to be wet and soft. Don’t spin the gliders round on the spot, this action digs a hole in the grass….move them forward as you turn them around.
  • Please clean the gliders and tugs after the day’s flying. This takes ages and your help is required with this unpleasant task.
  • Tug pilots will find helpful information on winter ops on the notice board. Please read.
  • If the canopy keeps steaming up it is time to stop flying.

All instructors are reminded that they must complete a return form and hand it in straight away if they want to renew their ratings.

All those early solo pilots should be planning to come to the Bronze C lectures now running on Saturday mornings in the clubhouse.

Instructors – meeting for BI’s on Saturday 11th and for Assistant and full ratings on Saturday 18th and 25th. Please come to one of them.
