Can anybody learn to glide?

If you can drive, ride a bike (or possibly neither) you can probably learn to fly a glider. You need to be in reasonably good health - there can be a bit of pushing and shoving to be done on the airfield - and not suffering from any of the conditions that would preclude you from driving a car. You need to be over 16 years old before you can fly a glider solo in the united kingdom.

How long will it take? There isn't a definitive answer to this one, usually the younger you start, the quicker you will learn - but having said that, some of our successful cross-country pilots at Booker didn't begin to learn our sport until after their retirement! As a very rough rule of thumb, I would suggest 40 aerotow launches plus one launch for every year of your age to reach solo standard.

Having started to learn, it is vital to keep the momentum going by flying as often as you possibly can.
