Booker Regionals 2017

Booker Regionals 2017.

glider finishing a task

The 2017 Booker "Red Kite" Regionals gliding competition will take place from Saturday July 15th to Sunday July 23rd. This competition will build on the success of our recent competitions. This is a one-class all-abilities BGA rated regionals competition.

Our task setter is an experienced nationals pilot and regular club task setter. Our Met Man is a talented glider pilot and professional meteorologist with a proven track record in finding the best part of the country, and best timing, for a task.

To ensure the best competitor experience, all tasks will be easy-to-fly Handicapped Distance Tasks - the fair competition format that gives smaller gliders an equal chance of getting round.

Despite the low entry fee, you will enjoy excellent facilities. This year we also have half price entry fee and launches for Juniors. If you are a visitor or first time competitor we will provide a pre-comp briefing and we have club members who love to help out with retrieves after those late landouts. We will have the same excellent briefing facilities as last year with complimentary tea and coffee on tap.

We've got everything in place to give all pilots nine days of great gliding.

You can fill out an on line competition entry form now.

Handicapped Distance Tasks

To ensure the best competitor experience, all tasks will be easy-to-fly Handicapped Distance Tasks - the fair competition format that gives smaller gliders an equal chance of getting round. Our Task Setters, Tim and Jim, have been key to the development of this format in the UK so you can expect an excellent standard of task setting.

Here are some features of Handicapped Distance Tasks.

Handicap Distance Task, Turnpoint
  • High and low handicap gliders share the same task route
  • More gliders stay in touch throughout the task
  • Less complex to fly than an assigned area task
  • Can still use simple GPS device setup to navigate the task
  • Flights can be submitted to the BGA National Ladder
  • 1000 point day scoring
  • Pilots in lower handicapped gliders can directly compare their performance with those in the latest hot ships

Regardless of whether you are a World Class Pilot looking for a Grand Prix style event, or a Regionals Pilot trying to get round a week of tasks, this comp format will provide you with the most fun you can get in a gliding competition.
